The purpose of the new chromosome was to transform individuals into superhumans, with enhanced strength, agility, and endurance. The result was an artificial 24th chromosome, which integrates itself with the subject's existing DNA. Although more or less human, they were technologically advanced, and apparently performed research into genetic manipulation. Samantha eventually reluctantly explains.Įxcavations at an archaeological site have revealed the remains of an ancient Martian race. After several Marines are killed, Sarge demands to know more about the research being conducted at the station. Although the creatures attempt to infect some of the remaining humans, others are killed outright. Some of them have mutated even further, becoming creatures resembling Imps. Upon entering the quarantined area, the Marines discover members of the science team who have changed into hostile zombie-like monsters. They are greeted by a technician named Pinky, who informs them that when emergency alarms were tripped, the Ark was sealed off from the rest of the base, in order to make sure the teleporter was not compromised. The team travels to Mars through a wormhole originally discovered by the Olduvai workers, named the Ark. Samantha Grimm, is one of the research scientists on Olduvai. Reaper has a special interest in this mission his sister, Dr. serving as his second-in-command (Grimm is the film's version of the Doom Protagonist). The RRTS are lead by the cool, calm, and collected Sarge, with John "Reaper" Grimm. No one is allowed in or out except the Rapid Response Tactical Squad, a heavily armed marine special forces unit dispatched to handle the problem. Olduvai Research Station on Mars has been shut down and placed under quarantine, for reasons that are unclear but ominous. However, a second film was eventually released in 2019. Due to the film's failure, a second Doom movie was eventually cancelled. It received mostly poor reviews, eventually settling at 19% on the Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer, and grossed $28 million domestically and $56 million worldwide at the box office. The film's production budget was $60 million. In a September 2005 interview, executive producer John Wells suggested that a second Doom movie could be created if the first was a box office success. The Doom 3 version of the BFG9000 looks more like a Halo Assault Rifle. Pinky, however, has wheels for hind legs, instead of mechanical hind legs and the BFG9000 looks more like a real life gun. Every monster and weapon in the film is Doom 3 style. The film's design also featured the involvement of id Software, helping to ensure that things looked "authentic". It is likely that the success of Doom 3 played a part in prompting the eventual production of the film. The film is closer in style to the horror game Doom 3 rather than the original action games, Doom and Doom II: Hell on Earth. The DVD was released on February 7, 2006, and the Blu-Ray version was released on February 10, 2009. It was released on Octoin North America and Decemin the United Kingdom. Honestly, this ranks up high with me along with Doom VFR, Borderlands 2 VR, and Skyrim VR - in my opinion all of which are remarkable and ahead of their time curios of the platform.Doom is a 2005 science-fiction horror film based on the video game Doom 3. Things can get kind of annoying when monsters get too close and you can’t hit them, plus backtracking once you’ve completed an objective can leave you wandering around, but those are minor gripe methinks. The villain is memorable and keeps you driving to finally deliver an ass kicking of all time.ĭoom 3 VR feels like an evolution on the Doom experience John Romero was trying to establish in 1993, this time with no music, making it a creepier atmosphere, all the classic guns (favs are chain gun and plasma gun - they’re huge and badass), and monstrous demons to make you feel like a real bada$$. The teleporting system from Doom VFR is gone - thank god. The game plays like a dream with the aim controller, unlike in Doom VFR where the aim controller chugged - as a result, Doom 3 VR is the more immersive game of the two. It’s hard to believe that this game is 17 years old - the graphics look great in VR, I think the low PS VR resolution actually helps to cover up the aging graphics. Amazing! We are lucky to have such a great Doom 3 VR port so late in the PS VR lifecycle.
